Lake Boondooma Caravan and Recreation Park is in the South Burnett region, QLD site 378 in the Caravan Parks 5 book or you can locate it on the #campsaustraliawideapp
Only 20 km north of Proston, it is a drawcard for anglers, campers, bird-watchers and water-sports enthusiasts. The dam was purpose-built in 1983 to provide a water supply to the Tarong Power Station. More recently, the former Wondai Shire Council and now the South Burnett Regional Council, has developed it into a major regional recreation area – with excellent fishing and amenities.
What to bring
If you love to fish, remember you need a stocked impoundment permit – purchase it online, at Australia Post or call 1300 575 359 during business hours.
Amenities are excellent for big groups
You’ll find BBQs, powered sites, a camp kitchen, playground and boat ramp. In addition to their cabins, you can lodge in The Bunkhouse, 3 km north of the camping grounds, higher up near the Dam Wall Lookout with views. It has 8 rooms, shared toilet and bathroom facilities and sleeps up to 32 people – so would be perfect for reunions and larger groups. The separate dining hall has full kitchen facilities. A linen hire service is available, it is to be paid on check-in.
Boondooma Dam is pet friendly, however there are no pets allowed inside any of the buildings or on verandah.
