Here’s our “Top 25 Best of”. All our favourites, yes we are biased this is our opinion – not best in the state – just best of our 4 month trip. We also saw a bit of ACT and QLD. Newtons Crossing FREE CAMP Bega Region, NSW Do not despair, you can still find free camps on the NSW South Coast … Made up of Illawarra and Kiama, Shellharbour, Shoalhaven, Eurobodalla and Bega Valley or Sapphire Coasts regions, we loved our New South Wales South Coast adventure. However, it can be difficult to find camping options that aren’t caravan parks or sometimes expensive National Park campgrounds. Pet friendly options may also be harder to find. This list has both! Expect swimming and fishing at most of these (make sure you have a permit) so pack your togs and your fishing

Timber Creek, Northern Territory After experiencing bucket list standouts, we are shifting the spotlight onto some underrated Aussie greats. Like Timber Creek in the Northern Territory. Awesome lookouts and the Travellers Rest is a terrific caravan park behind the pub, with free croc feeding sessions! Girgarre in Victoria With a tiny population, Girgarre punches way above it’s weight! A freedom camp, sound trail, events and botanic gardens. We loved our stay! A WA truck stop Kumarina Roadhouse was a welcome overnighter for us – with bar, sunset from the verandah, budget camping and a mixed grill! Little known NSW gem

Pilliga means ‘Swamp Oak’ and the Pilliga Forest (or Pilliga Scrub) is an Aussie icon and includes Pilliga Nature Reserve, Timmallallie National Park, Pilliga West, and East State Conservation Areas. What to do and where to stay at Wee Waa, New South Wales

What a beautiful town – with an interesting name. The Kamilaroi meaning is ‘Fire for Roasting’ and you pronounce it War, not Wah! We stopped out here for an 18th, but stayed out of town, on a cotton property. Cotton is what the town is known for, and why it is called Australia’s Cotton Capital. Wee Waa is also said to be the oldest town on the Namoi. Originally cattle and cereal crops drove local income, but in the 1960s, cotton farming began. However we did have time for lunch, and were right royally treated at the Imperial Hotel. I
