FREEDOM CAMP at Bowning Recreation Ground, New South Wales

CAMPS at Bowning Rec ground, Victoria Have you been to Bowning, New South Wales? Our first stop was Bowning Hotel – just down the road from the campsite! As we walked in I looked up to one of my favourites poems. “Clancy of the Overflow” adorns the bar. Established in 1870, the pub is proud of their past patron, Banjo Paterson. In fact, it is said that Banjo Paterson had a drink in town with fellow poet, Henry Lawson. These two Aussie writers were known for ‘the Bulletin debate’, discussing our national identity and whether bush life was romanticised by

Exploring the Meander Valley, Tasmania

Travelling further afield from Launceston, the Meander Valley Highway is well named. It is so pretty,  you want to take your time exploring,  what I imagine,  a drive through the English countryside might look like – quaint towns, historic buildings, churches and a village green. Driving into Hadspen just on the left as you are coming in off the highway is the Discovery Holiday Park Hadspen.  It has an IGA attached to it, so you can get fuel and supplies here. It was nice to see those little extras on offer as well like a coffee machine in the camp

Go camping at these NEW caravan parks and sites!

Whilst we’ve been scouring the coast and country – our team have been working hard adding new sites to our free Camps Australia Wide App! One of the new sites we came across is a budget pet-friendly camp, Buchan Rec Ground, Victoria. As the caves are still closed, the community REALLY needs visitors to come and support local businesses. Anyway, we checked over 50 camps in one morning alone! And hundreds more in our 5 week trip – so keep posted with this newsletter (like the sites below) and the Camps Australia Wide App feed for updates. PET FRIENDLY RACEWAY

We had a ‘Buchan’ good time!

Buchan Recreation Reserve Update March 19:  We’ve just been advised that the Buchan Caves and Reserve will reopen on March 26th in time for Easter. Pronounced ‘Bucken’ – Buchan in East Gippsland Victoria needs travellers! Please visit and support the community and businesses until the Buchan Caves and campground reopen after the tragic flash floods last December. Two tourists heartbreakingly lost their lives in the flash floods on Boxing Day. However, the community is still reeling – we are told businesses are closing without the regular visitor numbers. When we visited, locals were not sure if Buchan Caves was

Favourite pet-friendly campground: Yelarbon Rec Ground, Queensland

When I used to work around Texas (last century!), there was a great little town that was on my schedule. If you are leaving on a trip or coming home via the Cunningham Highway there is an excellent camp area in the little town of Yelarbon that we recommend.  It’s between Warwick and Goondiwindi so is a good distance for us for a day’s run from Brisbane or the Sunshine and Gold Coast regions. Yelarbon Recreation Ground is away from the highway with lovely grounds.  Walk through the gate to the unpowered sites – there is a whole oval to choose
