FREEDOM CAMP at Bowning Recreation Ground, New South Wales

CAMPS at Bowning Rec ground, Victoria Have you been to Bowning, New South Wales? Our first stop was Bowning Hotel – just down the road from the campsite! As we walked in I looked up to one of my favourites poems. “Clancy of the Overflow” adorns the bar.  Established in 1870, the pub is proud of their past patron, Banjo Patterson. In fact, it is said that Banjo Patterson had a drink in town with fellow poet, Henry Lawson. These two Aussie writers were known for ‘the Bulletin debate’, discussing our national identity and whether bush life was romanticised by

Exploring the Meander Valley, Tasmania

Travelling further afield from Launceston, the Meander Valley Highway is well named. It is so pretty,  you want to take your time exploring,  what I imagine,  a drive through the English countryside might look like – quaint towns, historic buildings, churches and a village green. Driving into Hadspen just on the left as you are coming in off the highway is the Discovery Holiday Park Hadspen.  It has an IGA attached to it, so you can get fuel and supplies here. It was nice to see those little extras on offer as well like a coffee machine in the camp

Bucket List: Queensland’s Natural Sciences Loop

Eulo, home of Diprotodon Just back from our winter travels, our plan was to spend most of our time in NSW. Covid has shelved that for a while, instead we drove further west and took on Queenland’s Natural Sciences Loop!  I like my hot baths – what a delight to stop into Charlotte Plains Station (906) 46 km east of Cunnamulla, and have a soak in their soothing artesian waters. I enjoyed a nag with plenty of travellers, including the owner’s family. School holidays meant camping was very popular, but you have a huge area to spread out. The waters

Where to stay – what to see and do in Yelarbon, Queensland

Image Courtesy Kate Gilmore When driving through Yelarbon, our daughter snapped the painted silo image. Little did she know I was well acquainted with the town, having worked for the Rural Allied Health Team in the 90s in the district. We would overnight in the Texas/Inglewood/Yelarbon/Yetman area every month. In between clients, we would pick up a sandwich from the service station, and picnic by the Lagoon. Just across from the lagoon is a great community run RV stop, the Yelarbon Recreation Ground (QLD site 933 in #camps10 or find it on the Camps Australia Wide App. I spoke to
