Congratulations to the Wellshot Hotel at Ilfracombe, Queensland – they have won the Grey Nomad Award for best pub stay! It was so good we stopped here twice. That is, after walking the excellent Machinery Mile and then back again for dinner.
The beer garden is a welcoming area – and just next to camp parking.
The hotel has powered and unpowered camping. It is pet friendly, budget priced with toilets and showers.
Their camp area has limited space – which is why we stopped at the Ilfracombe Cabins & Caravan Park next door. But it was great to meet publican Tracy, and enjoy dinner!
We said hi to the calf whilst we were there. The poddy was quite friendly – and the team involved young customers at feeding time.
With history dating back from 1890, it is hard to believe it was one of five hotels in town.
A quirky pub – but I didn’t get a photo of the barstools! Narelle Mitchell sent in this photo, she said one of the locals had a grab, too!
Great info signage and old fence. Do read the story about the Railway Hotel – Miss O’Kane was its publican for sixty years!
The pub is perfectly placed between the Ilfracombe Cabins & Caravan Park and the Ilfracombe Park Swimming Pool.
Plus, ewe have to appreciate a woolly great pun when you see it!
