You can see why it is a whole lot of water if the Mary River is close to the road above, as it was early January, 2022!
1893 was when the Mary River covered the bridge. In 1955 water splashed through the decking. The bridge stands 23 metres above the river!
It is a little noisy crossing the historic Dickabram Bridge, Miva – not far from Theebine Hotel in the Gympie region.
After lunch at the pub, we stopped at the bridge’s rest area for the night. And it is also noisy camping next to it. It does sound like wheely bins! But more of a novelty than a nuisance.
It is pet friendly, for self contained vehicles only, with toilets, mobile coverage, shade and picnic tables.
It is only 20 hours maximum at the moment, and it is only a small parking area there now – but we had this free site and those beautiful Mary River views all to ourselves!
The history of the bridge is fascinating – and no, we didn’t hear the ghost below!
There are plans to increase the stay to 72 hours and remove the bollards so people can once again park on the grass, not just the parking area.
