Ozzy As is a Camp Area 59 km south of Darwin, and 45 km north of Batchelor, at 335 Old Bynoe Road, Livingstone, Northern Territory.
CAMPS researcher Kym Leech, “Darwin can be seen as expensive. We found several private campgrounds on the outskirts of Darwin.”
He said that when you drive up the highway, you don’t realise how many people live down the side roads. It made Kym realise how much Darwin as a city had grown, since he had lived there years ago.
With partner Lyn Hutton, they explored the area and added many new campgrounds for our latest edition.
Ozzy As is one of these budget campgrounds, there is only room for 5 rigs, but at $15 per night, the duo thought it was a perfect base.
Pictured is Robbie, a pet emu from Ozzy As, they said, “She is very curious and nothing its sacred. We spent a lot of time together and as you can see, Robbie ‘assisted’ us with research for Camps 10. As the ‘supervising bird’, she made sure we stayed on track.”
Facilities include toilets, showers and dump point. There was water, shade, fireplace and BBQ, mobile coverage and pets are allowed.
The campground is 15 km from Berry Springs, which was a rest and recreation camp during WWII, and the remains are around the main pool. It’s only 65km north of the must-see Litchfield National Park.
Kym and Lyn also recommend Darwin attractions – the WWII Oil Tunnels, and new attractions at Stokes Hill Wharf – virtual reality display of the bombing of Darwin, and the story of the Royal Flying Doctors.
