This #graniteskywalk at Castle Rock near Albany Western Australia is a Definite MUST DO. This is absolutely the best image I have seen of this adventure. It really is as cool as it looks!
Hands down, this was one of my (and the family’s) favourite walks in Australia.
Challenging? Yes. Terrifying to look down? Well, a bit… Worth it? definitely!
Overall you are looking at a 4.4 km return walk. National Parks say it is Class 5 and requires moderate to good fitness.
Walk through yate, marri and karri forest, past the famous Balancing Rock- the Porongurup Range is magnificent.
It’s 65 metres to the Granite Skywalk on the Castle Rock summit, there is an alternate viewpoint, Karri Lookout. However, what a thrill to scramble over, under and through the rocks and climb up the seven metre ladder to that bottomless vista.
Better still, it is winery country around Albany, so the reward afterwards made it even more worthwhile. Family owned Castle Rock Estate is just minutes from the National Park, make sure you sample their Riesling.
The Granite Skywalk is just one of those “Bucket List” icons we have listed in our new and FREE Official Camps Australia Wide Checklist for ‘Must-Do’ Experiences in Australia.
