2 free pet friendly Murray River camps at Walker Flat, South Australia

I really did walk 9km to see these two FREE Murray River camps at Walkers Flat, SA! Then we floated past in the paddleboat. Turns out, Walker Flat is a protected section of the river. Big paddleboats (and we were holidaying in the biggest in the southern hemisphere – the Murray Princess) don’t fare too well with winds and the forecast wasn’t great. However, walks were an option – so off my sister and I explored with the CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE App and CAMPS Pendium. Hettner Landing  You’ll drive past Lake Bywater to get to this camp. Swans were out

New Outback Camp in Beltana, South Australia

If you are travelling along the Outback Highway in South Australia, we’d recommend a short detour into the historic town of Beltana.  Unfortunately nearby Beltana Station is no longer offering camping, but the small town of Beltana has filled that gap.  Approximately 12 km east of the old Roadhouse turnoff (the road is currently being sealed with bitumen),  volunteers from the Progress Association have been busy creating a place for campers to feel welcome.  Beltana is a State Heritage listed town with a remarkable array of old buildings and an impressive town hall, the site of which has been chosen

Australia’s only fully off grid caravan park: Fowlers Bay, South Australia

by CAMPS Ambassadors, Overland Exposure Fowlers Bay is very small coastal town that has sand dunes, a jetty, some whales in the right season and that’s about it! We did stay at the ONLY FULLY OFF GRID CARAVAN PARK in Australia and the owners were lovely. If you plan to stay here, just remember they run everything off grid so just like you and us when free camping need to be mindful of water and electricity use. The playground was fab and the Ringneck Parrots were chatty too! There is a communal fire pit that is lit each evening. OH

Kangaroo Island South Australia – Upgrades Completed

Murray Lagoon Campground bbq shelter – Images Courtesy of The Department for Environment and Water Late last year we blogged about a host of upgrades that were under way on Kangaroo Island to re-invigorate the area following the devastating bush fires of the previous year. Those upgrades are now complete at some of Kangaroo Island’s most beautiful spots – D’Estrees Bay and Murray Lagoon – and it’s perfect timing for the school holidays.  Located in Cape Gantheaume Conservation Park on the south coast, these secluded spots will give visitors the opportunity to enjoy this peaceful wilderness. The Murray Lagoon campground

Budget and waterside camp: Second Creek Beach, Eyre Peninsula, South Australia

Our ambassadors Manda and Daniel thought this was a great small camp. There was only room for three or four sites. It is a flat site and there is a boat ramp (with 4WD access) and toilets, too! Payment is available onsite with an honesty box, but there are no bookings. You can swim, fish and bring your pet. There is a low ocean swell here because of the Islands of the Sir Joseph Banks Group, so no need to bring a surfboard! The camp is located south of Tumby Bay, on the eastern side of the beautiful Eyre Peninsula. What to see
