Happy spring, and we hope you have lots of camping planned for the season. The days are warming up, the wildflowers are up, and there is no better time to point the rig somewhere new.
Thank you to everyone who entered our Father’s Day Giveaway, “Dad in his happy place”! I was so chuffed to see your inspiring photos and messages from all over the country. Everyone of them told the same story, dads doing what they love best, out in the bush by the water with the people they love. A lot of fish and dogs were in our inbox, too!
Here’s our favourite entries below AND the winner of a $300 fuel voucher! These sites are in the CAMPS Australia Wide App, CAMPS 13, CAMPSPendium2, or Caravan Parks 7 guides.
By Karumba
How’s this for a barra? Shane Berg caught this barra and a king salmon on a camping trip to North Queensland! Good eating.
Karumba is on the Gulf of Carpentaria, up from Normanton – it is a favourite sunny hangout for winter! And a fisher’s haven, as well as barramundi season running February to October – you can also add grunter, black jewfish, threadfin and blue salmon, golden snapper (fingermark), goldspot cod and groper, mackerel, queenfish, flathead, trevally, whiting, catfish and bream. This is a popular stop from the Savannah Way.
Chaffey Dam
“Dad settled in and happy” at Bowling Alley Point Reserve, Chaffey Dam, near Nundle, NSW. This site is pet-friendly and budget priced. 📸: Mary Cooper.
Menindee Chillout
Rob Acton’s dad kicking back on his retirement lap, the highlight of his whole NSW trip at pet-friendly Copi Hollow Caravan Park, Menindee, NSW.
This is an absolute favourite site. We loved our time here with mates, sunsets over the firepit and water plus exploring all around this historic area.
Gordon River
“The old boy in his happy spot” on a camping and kayaking trip on the Gordon River, Tasmania 📸: Linda Mainwaring. What a river!
Clarence River
“Me, Peter Cheffins and my most loyal companion Matilda camped up beside the Clarence River at Tabulam, NSW.” Thanks Peter! Tabulam Racecourse is another good spot near here.
We LOVE the Clarence River! Here’s a site “The Gorge” my brother really rates. We recently camped at Maclean Showgrounds, only 21 km from where it meets the sea at Yamba and Iluka.
Winner
“Main man Tony, the firestarter and dinner cooker every night, and best cuddles ever”, at free and pet-friendly Kialrah Pool Camp, Pilbara, WA. Thanks Melissa @robertshaws_round_oz
