The Great Ocean Road is one of the most well known road trip routes in Australia. But Victoria’s breath taking coast is just the beginning – there is so much to see in this state including historic sites, theme parks, wildlife, wineries and snow-capped mountains. JB Plain Hut is the first hut you will come across from Dinner Plain, only 1.8 km towards Hotham Alpine Village in Victoria High Country. Surprisingly, there were several RVs at the carpark entrance on the Great Alpine Road – and at least 4 tents around the hut and my favourite snow gums. 10 free camps along Buckland Valley Road – riverside and pet friendly!

Clear Creek, VIC Buckland Valley Road has ten free camps out on this beautiful river, near Porepunkah. Just off the Great Alpine Road, it is a pretty part of the world, and one we return to again and again! All these campgrounds are pet friendly and three are new listings. Wunghnu Rec Reserve, VIC

NEW Free Camp at Wunghnu, Victoria

Wunghnu Rec Reserve has been reopened by Moira Shire Council. It is a free 48 hour RV stop on the Goulburn Valley Highway. Locally, visitors can check out the Moira Miniature Rail, enjoy a coffee or meal at the local cafe or spot the singular ewe on Australia’s first reinforced concrete water tower. Boy, have we seen some awesome free camps lately! Although we’ve based ourselves at Dinner Plain- we’ve had epic drives through the Victorian High Country.
