Bargain camp – Good Night Scrub Hall, QLD

Looking to explore some of the small and beautiful towns of Queensland and need an bargain camp to base yourself? Take a look at Good Night Scrub Hall.

At only $5 per vehicle per night, it is a winner. It is pet friendly with a seven day limit. There are wheelchair accessible toilets, playground, picnic tables, mobile coverage, shade and non potable water.

Large, flat, grassy sites close to Chin Chin Creek, make this peaceful site an easy and cost-effective spot to set up for a few nights.

The hall itself was first built in 1934, and has maintained most of its original form, although electricity and plumbing were added at some stage.

The hall grounds were originally outfitted as a sporting oval, the strip of concrete for a cricket pitch a testament to that fact.

Where is it?

Located only 15 minutes off the highway, it is halfway between Childers and Gin Gin on a fully sealed road. The hall grounds are a perfect base to explore the surrounding attractions of the Bundaberg region.

What to see and do nearby?

Locally, visitors can explore the Good Night Scrub National Park, One Tree Hill Lookout and Paradise Dam Picnic Area. The park has 166 bird species, and is the last known location for sighting the presumed extinct Paradise Parrot.

Visit Boolboonda Train Tunnel, a heritage-listed unsupported tunnel, the longest in Qld at 192m long.

Take a dip in the Burnett River at Booyal Crossing where you may spot an endangered Lungfish, platypus or white-throated snapping turtle.

Gin Gin, Wallaville, Apple Tree Creek and Childers are nearby towns host to farmers markets, galleries, museums and unique Queensland establishments.
