Brenda Webb and Tim McNamara have just listed their farm stay with us. This Camp Area is 3170 Millmerran-Leyburn Rd, 5km north of Leyburn, and includes 1 km dirt track (13 G10 on HEMA maps).
Only $10 for a site per night – there is a toilet, water, shade, fireplaces. It is dry weather only – that is not a problem at the moment, unfortunately.
Only open for a few weeks, the 65 acres includes drive through sites that back onto a seasonal creek.
Brenda says, “We are currently agisting our neighbour’s 55 head of cattle and calves and finishing fencing off the sheep paddock where we will breed Dorper Sheep (these are sheep that shed their wool and don’t generally need shearing). We will also eventually run our own cattle drought permitting.
“We are currently drought declared (which is why we are destocked of our own cattle) so are helping out our adjoining farmers by agisting their stock and pumping water to their troughs from our bore.”
Also located in a koala corridor, they boast many different native birds and local wildlife including wallabies and kangaroos – wild ducks and spoonbills make use of their two dams.
“Our big dam is still good at the moment – one of the few in the area. When the creek runs we have yellow bellies ready to be caught.”
As well as coping with a drought, the couple are renovating, with three generations under one roof.
“Our daughter, husband and two grandkids live with us in our 1880 Queenslander farmhouse which we had brought onto the farm in two pieces from a dairy farm 159kms away.”
“Interestingly when we bought the property after being on the road in our caravan for two years, we discovered that Tim’s Great Aunt owned it in 1902 – so we bought back the family farm!”
Brenda is an Artist and sells her work in local markets and by commissions and her daughter makes jewellery – both of which are on display in the house!
