Our road trip to the snow, we planned to stop a night within an hour or two of Albury. Ganmain is almost south of West Wyalong – two towns we had never driven through, something we love to do – is travel on roads unknown to us. This night we hit the jackpot!

Firstly the winter sunset was AMAZING. It was a huge day in the car, so as the five of us tumbled out, a good meal was on our mind.

The Ganmain Pub is not pretentious. There’s a friendly main bar – busy that night. Also opening to the bar is a firelit room with a pool table. Perfect to distract our crew whilst they waited for dinner.

You actually walk out of pub, and into the door next to it, to order your meal. Normally pub fare is on offer – and pizzas. They were also busy this Friday night, as a lot of locals were picking up their takeaways.

All of us were blown away with the generous sized, tasty meals – served to us back in the   pub (there are tables to eat where you order, as well).

Steaks, lamb chops, schnitzels and parmies – everyone was very content. Our daughter in particular was very impressed that she received chips AND mash with her steak (the impoverished student was ‘testing’ steak meals whenever we ate out on the trip).

Ganmain is 57 km north west of Wagga or 46 km east of Narrandera. You can stay the Ganmain Showground. Coolamon is only 15 km east for extra supplies.

Of course, the pub offers very reasonably priced accommodation as well – and the balcony has a great view of town.

You’ll find the pub at 98 Ford Street, Ganmain – or call them on 02 6927 6419.
