Underrated: Kumarina Roadhouse in Western Australia

This roadhouse is very deceptive. It doesn’t look like much from the road. I think when we arrived, Heatley queried is this it? There were a few vans, cars and trucks parked out front.

However, as soon as I opened the door I was warmly greeted. Camping was $20 a night and the combined shower/toilet cubicles were clean and adequate.

Not that we got to that for a while – we sat out under the verandah and watched the colours change in the sky as the road trains, some carrying huge buildings arrived and left.

We interrupted our game of 500 to order.

We couldn’t go past the mixed grill, even though pizzas were on, too! The rest of our fam ordered the lamb chops. This mixed grill arrived with not one, but two fried eggs. So, one each, as we always share. And they let you order chips and vegetables. Love that.

All the team were from around the world, and they are very friendly and efficient. Our meals were delish, and we finished our card game afterwards. It is great that they offer ‘make your own’ tea and coffee (and hot chocolate) in the cafe area. There is also a microwave and toaster for guests.

The cabins/dongas were basic but our family were happy. Although there was road noise, it was a good spot to stop.

BTW, it is pronounced Coo-marina, and the sunrise was obscenely good! Find this welcome spot, Kumarina Roadhouse in the CAMPS App and guides.
