Here’s one that ticks all the boxes, the Bucketts Way Camp n Stay, a brand new campsite just off the Pacific Highway north of Newcastle. This quiet bush setting is deceptive to say the least, unpowered camping but with all the trimmings.

Three years in the making, friendly owners Brad and Carolyn created this beauty on 25 acres of natural bushland. It has huge private level campsites around around 10 x 20 metres per site, so no need to unhook and privacy galore. Despite being only 470 metres off the highway there’s no traffic noise amongst all the shady gums. It is the perfect place for the kids to put the iphone on charge and enjoy the well kept paddocks, lawns and the great outdoors.

Brad has built a turn in section coming in off the arterial road too so no awkward traffic problems at the entry either.

There’s hot showers, beautiful scenery with lots of shade, it is pet friendly with brand new amenities worthy of the poshest caravan park, and includes disabled access. The massive camp kitchen has a full commercial oven, with lots of cooking utensils, tables, lounge area and Bar-b-que. There are also a number of water taps around the campground, you can fill your caravan tank for a small fee, disconnect and reconnect when needed. While it is unpowered, you may run generators from 8am to 6pm and there’s plenty of sunny spots for solar users. It even has its own dump point!

The fee is charged per site not per person, which makes it attractive for a family with a small fee for the hot showers.

Only two and a half hours north of Sydney on the Pacific Highway and around 40 minutes from Newcastle; you’ll turn left into Bucketts Way (one of the main arterial roads) and it’s the third driveway on the left. Find your perfect spot and set up, relax and get comfy, Brad will visit around 6ish to say hi and collect your fees.
