When I used to work around Texas (last century!), there was a great little town that was on my schedule. If you are leaving on a trip or coming home via the Cunningham Highway there is an excellent camp area in the little town of Yelarbon that we recommend.
It’s between Warwick and Goondiwindi so is a good distance for us for a day’s run from Brisbane or the Sunshine and Gold Coast regions. Yelarbon Recreation Ground is away from the highway with lovely grounds.
The camp area is maintained by volunteers and the whole place is a credit to them. There are powered sites and lots of room in the middle of the oval for unpowered. The laundry is spotless, amenities always clean and a great little herb garden as well.
The site is pet friendly and suitable for big rigs.
For bird watchers there is a lagoon just across the road and we hear the hotel has very good meals. (The specials look awesome!)
Regardless of whether we are stopping or passing through – a must see is Yelarbon’s Silo Art. It is fantastic! Here’s a photo of the silo art as it was painted…
