Doolena Gorge – a Western Australia free camp by the water

Photo credit: Denhym Kelly-Wilson @denhymn from Instagram Who knew that only half an hour from Marble Bar, the hottest place in Australia – there was a waterhole to cool down in? Doolena Gorge is shaded by trees and the cliffs most of the day, so perfect for a swim. Follow walking tracks to the next creek or climb up to the waterfall. If you are camping here, make sure you arrive in time – dusk is a must, this is when the sun lights up the cliff face. Facilities are non-existent, but pets are welcome. Access this camp only during

It is rugged country, but some level sites are available near the dam. Toilets, BBQ, picnic table, dump point and fireplaces are on site. BYO firewood and bring water in case the dam is empty. Big rig and pet friendly. Built in 1897, the dam wall is 225 metres across and 18 metres high – you can learn about the story of the construction. One of the stops on

Ngumban Cliff Lookout

It’s Ngumban, not Ngumpan!

Ngumban Cliff Lookout Image Courtesy Sheng Yee Camps Australia Wide Ngumban Cliff Lookout should be how WA site 682 in Camps 10 is written. RV traveller, Michael Lennon has advised us that unlike the Hema version, WA main roads spell it with a ‘b’. Please update your CAMPS 10 book.  Add this site to your list if you want to be in the ‘middle of nowhere’ admiring sunset on the ranges. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNPg1TnRHHQ About an hour from Fitzroy Crossing you’ll find this camp area, looking over a huge gorge and the Mueller Ranges. Park on the hill, near the edge.  Facilities

Narrogin RV Stop

Brand new: Narrogin RV Stop, Western Australia

We all know that government can be more of a hindrance than a help sometimes, so when local councils take the time to listen to the needs of their constituents and deliver the resources requested, we should all take the time to show our support.

Freedom Camp at Ballinyoo Bridge, WA

Freedom Camp at Ballinyoo Bridge Western Australia

Image courtesy Lyn Quilty Here’s an update from Lyn Quilty: “A fantastic free camp spot is Ballinyoo Bridge, on the Murchison River. Big open area for larger vans or groups, then smaller, more private sites going well back from main road. Just follow the tracks. We had a quick swim each day, saw a couple kayaking, lots of walks, wildflowers, good spot for birdwatching, curious emus, wood available. A beautiful spot for a few days. No facilities other than million star accommodation.” Thank you Lyn, for sending in your photo and sharing your review with Camps Australia Wide. Ballinyoo Bridge

Update your listing for Norseman RV Park, Western Australia

WA Site 38 (in Camps 10) – Norseman Recreation Reserve is CLOSED. It has been replaced by an RV area adjacent to the Recreation Reserve on the corner of Richardson and Mildura Streets with access from Mildura Street. Ken Skinner advised of these changes, and said, “The Norseman site has heaps of room and easy access but no facilities. It is about a 5 minute walk to the Ablution Block at the Information Centre and another minute or two to the town centre. There is no signage restricting the use of generators and it is not close enough to the

Stay at Kambalda West RV Stop

Kambalda – image G&J Gardiner CAMPS Researcher, Graham Gardiner was very impressed with the quality of this free camp, and wanted to say, “Thank you Kambalda and to the friendly council ranger who welcomed us”.  It is a find for any family – with BBQ, covered playground, free tennis court, skatepark and sports field close by.  This town has fantastic facilities left over from the past mining boom – with squash courts, sports complex, library, supermarket and more.  He said, it is not too far to walk to toilets, and showers are available for a small fee at the Recreation
