Camp and dance at Neurum Creek Bush Retreat, Queensland

Book Neurum Creek Bush Retreat in advance for upcoming concerts in 2024! If you love music, and you love camping (like I do) then it is a no-brainer. Camp onsite and a short walk to the bands and action under the Big Fig.

All this is at Mount Archer in the Somerset Region, near Woodford, Queensland. They say it is 75 minutes from Brisbane and 75 minutes from the Sunshine Coast.

We relaxed, fireside, and danced down by the stage to tribute bands for Icehouse and INXS. Each guest has a chance to win lucky door prizes – they were excellent, and plenty of them. First timers were warmly welcomed into their community. They also drew out prizes for the kids. No wonder the retreat draws happy campers back again and again!

Plus if you have a campsite like ours, you can see the stage – or at least the bodies dancing under the marquee, from our shady site! And it wasn’t too loud that we couldn’t hear each other.

Now this is a far cry from festivals I have attended where you pay for your ticket, pay for a bus there, drive to the bus pick up (!), queue to get in, then queue and fork out for festival priced drinks and meals! Even the ‘mosh pit’ was easy to dance into!

But basically, after you have paid for your combined event and camping entry – there are no additional costs like regular festivals. It is BYO food, BYO drinks! So it makes weekends like these so affordable – and they are family friendly.

However, if you don’t want to cook – visit the caterers, a coffee van – even breakfast and an ice cream truck are organised for events.

Neurum Creek Bush Retreat is pet friendly, too. Check out the hitching rails near the amenities. The compost toilets and good showers are scattered throughout the campground. There are a few shade shelters with picnic tables and the office/shop.

Many sites run above the (seasonal) creek and you can walk further down to Platypus Pond, or swim in Wallaby Waterhole. I would love to come back when the creeks are running – we were told you could tube down 1.5 km and walk back to float down the creek again!

Neurum Creek Bush REtreat Woodford, QLD

A caution (haha)

Beware of the cheeky kookaburras and protect your plates. At least the little blighter waited until I had almost finished my delicious camping treat of a corn beef salad sandwich before they swooped it to the ground! Another picked up a fallen sausage before you could say, “three second rule”. Two more guests told me their meals were also swallowed by the laughing thieves.

When you book, they can advise about how level the site is and proximity to facilities if you need to be closer. They also have large group sites and power available. You can also check out their map online. It is excellent – you can also see photos of each site before you add your booking request.

Friendly hosts, Tracey and Simon, have already released tickets for Australia Day long weekend. Additionally, they have a special celebration coming up for their 20 year anniversary in August. So pack your dancing shoes!
