These photos are taken from when we dropped into Kooroorinya Falls Nature Reserve – a little known community-owned camp area between Muttaburra and Prairie in Queensland. You’ll find it in the CAMPS 11 book out this month and the Camps Australia Wide App (QLD site 414 in CAMPS 10). When we were there in winter this year – there was a lot less water to what I’ll guess what is there right now!
It was $20 per vehicle per night, no power, BYO water, generators ok 8am-6pm.
It hosts the annual OAPRC – Kooroorinya Races so has excellent facilities – showers under the stars, toilets, picnic tables, fire pits, pets allowed (dogs to be restrained) with plenty of room for all RVs. Access is weather dependent. It is 60 km south of Prairie on the Muttaburra Road. There’s a whole lot more dirt (about 120 km) as you drive north from Muttaburra.
What to do here?
- Yellow belly and yabby fishing
- Wildlife watching – kangaroos, wallabies, water rats, echidnas insects and lizards
- Birdwatching – emus, brolgas, speckled bowerbirds, acred kingfishers, squatter pigeons…
- Photography
- Walks and exploring
