It was raining heavily as we drove towards Thargomindah. Roads had been busy up to Eulo, as the Big Red Bash was coming to Birdsville. We were looking forward to some indoor meals, a laundry for our muddy clothes and warming up…
Thargomindah’s Explorers  Caravan Park gave us just that! We called ahead and snagged the last powered site – perfectly positioned outside the warm camp kitchen
We parked up and explored town – stopping into the Thargomindah Pub for a hot lunch – yum! Make sure you check out the Visitor Centre, too.
Explorers Caravan Park is huge, see more on the video and I’ll give you a tour…Â
Check in at the office, you’ll find a big area for unpowered camping on the left, and powered sites on the right.Â
The amenities block, with an indoor camp kitchen and outdoor picnic BBQ area are located in between the two.
You’ll also find cabins. We were very comfortable for the night – and dry in the mud.Â
I loved that the park is so closely linked to the river.Â
Follow the signs to ‘Pelican Point’ and the Riverwalk. Did I mention the park was pet friendly – and had firepits.
This is the main caravan park in town, there is an overflow area at Napunyah Caravan Park. Also pet friendly and with amenities.Â
Pets are also allowed at the Bulloo Riverside Free Camp on the eastern side of town, between the bridges. It was closed when we were there – roads were impassable due to the weather. It boasts 8 hectares of river frontage – with firepits, solar lights and bins. Tents to Big Rigs are welcome.
I’m looking forward to their new SPA GAZING facility – the ground is being prepared right now for it! Read more about what to see and do in Thargomindah and find all these sites in the CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE App and guides.
