A seriously underrated tiny town that is hard to pronounce, find Girgarre, Victoria and the freedom camp in the Campaspe Region of Victoria.
Girgarre Town Park
We thought this was an AWESOME camping spot, with a lovely fenced playground for kids with free BBQ, picnic tables, toilets and excellent hot shower. There are areas marked either side of the lovely memorial hall. All for a donation!
They permit caravans and motorhomes. However, tents or camper trailers are welcome during major events. Also note, Camping isn’t available the second Sunday of every month due to the markets.
Please support the town and businesses as you visit. With only 190 people living here, the town boast quite a few active groups!
Gargarro Botanic Gardens
It’s easy walking distance (across the road) from our overnighter at Girgarre Town Park. The new Botanic Gardens have walks and a licensed cafe. Found Mulla Mulla, Kangaroo Paw – they specialise in indigenous species.
Intriguing Girgarre Sound Trail
Over the other side from the camp is the fun sound trail, make sure you check it out, too!
Fun music events
The Botanic Gardens have a wonderful natural soundshell amphitheatre in the grounds. Happily, it is regularly used for musical entertainment like the January Moosic Muster and Jigaree Jammin’ on the last weekend of April and September. Another reason to return.
Farmer’s Markets
Girgarre Farmers’ Produce and Craft Market, held on the second Sunday of each month has grown to 120 stalls! Sorry we missed it. Camping isn’t available when it is on.
And another tip, pronounce Girgarre as “Grigarry”. Gargarro is another tongue twister, especially when you use both words in the same sentence!
Girgarre is not far from Shepparton and Echuca. Find it and more free and budget sites in the new free Camps Australia Wide App and guides.
