The Jordan Valley Hotel in Jericho, QLD is new to CAMPS 11 – you’ll also find it on the CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE App. It is QLD site 443 in Camps 11, we checked it out on our Outback Queensland trip last year.
Robert and Gay Stubbs purchased the business in 2005 but didn’t take over management themselves until 2013. Gay makes meals for any workers staying in the rooms, even packing them a nice morning tea and lunch for their days at work.
Thursday night is Pizza night and Friday nights the older locals get a nice home-cooked meal. Tuesday to Sunday, you can order your own meal if you are travelling through or if you’re a local.
The camp area is flat and grassy, behind the hotel. It is for patrons of the hotel, and for self-contained vehicles only. Register on arrival.
There are no pets and no generators.
Jericho has two other awesome pet-friendly freedom camping options: the showgrounds have amenities ($5 to $15 per night) and Redbank Park on the river (QLD sites 442 and 444 in Camps 11) has toilets and cold showers ($6 per night).
It’s a great town to visit, right on the Capricorn Highway! Jericho has the crystal trumpeters, telling the story of how Joshua won the battle of Jericho, in the main street.
It has the smallest drive-in theatre in Australia (you’ll have to time your trip as it opens once a month).
The Tourist Information Centre is just across the road from the pub.
