Is pub camping free?

Here’s the ‘how-to’ or ‘pub camping 101’… What do you think of this sign? At CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE, it is a given for us to support any business where we camp for free. Especially, if we want businesses like this hotel to continue to offer a free campsite. FREEDOM CAMP OF THE MONTH – Sandy Creek Pub, Queensland

There were still a few campers around, and a couple of vans leaving when we dropped into Sandy Creek Pub, last week. You camp in the grassy paddock next door with some farm animals, and enter via a gate. The pub is not far from the Cunningham Highway, near Warwick in Queensland’s Darling Downs. We loved the sign here about patronising the hotel. The site is for patrons only, with a donation for charity and a fee for a shower. But it is great to find this freedom camp here, because the only other options in Warwick, are caravan parks.

You’ll find our first free Pubstay around 18 kms south of Gunnedah, NSW just off the Kamilaroi Highway. The historic Curlewis Commercial Hotel is located on the corner of Goran and Railway Streets. It offers a country welcome, relaxed atmosphere and a large grassed area for free overnight parking for campers including RVs, caravans and camper trailers to pull up for the night. Budget priced: camp at Eromanga Motel, Queensland

A pool, cafe, tourist information, motel rooms, dongas and camping. You’ll find the Eromanga Motel in the centre of town, opposite the only independently owned Oil Refinery in Australia. It is walking distance to the local Royal Hotel and Town History Walk. The very friendly team serves 3 meals a day, every day. There are twin and single rooms with en suites, donga rooms, as well as powered and unpowered camping sites. It is pet friendly, with room for Big Rigs. Free Camping South Australia

Free camp at the Bellum Hotel, South Australia

For those travelling the Limestone Coast in South Australia, the Bellum Hotel at Mount Schank in SA is always happy to offer free camping. Located 12 km south of Mount Gambier on the Riddoch Highway (aka Bay Road); halfway between Mount Gambier and Port MacDonnell. The hotel is near the base of the Mount Schank volcanic crater and very close to Little Blue and Kilsby Sinkhole. Pet friendly, free camping is on the grassed area on the southern side of the hotel. They welcome self-contained travellers as there is no power or toilet facilities available when the hotel is closed.

Queensland Routes: St George – Nindigully – Thallon – Dirranbandi – Bollon

Thallon Silo As we headed outback this winter, instead of forging due west from St George, we took a detour – full of gems! Murray the Cod St George We followed the Balonne River into town, stopping at the Beardmore Dam picnic area for lunch. There are four caravan parks in town – we chose the Pelican’s Rest Caravan Park just east of town on the Cararnvon Highway. St George Caravan Park is opposite the bridge and Major Mitchell Monument. You’ll also find Murray the Cod here. The Riverway really makes the most of the Balonne with walkways and picnic

Bucket List: Queensland’s Natural Sciences Loop

Eulo, home of Diprotodon Just back from our winter travels, our plan was to spend most of our time in NSW. Covid has shelved that for a while, instead we drove further west and took on Queenland’s Natural Sciences Loop! I like my hot baths – what a delight to stop into Charlotte Plains Station (906) 46 km east of Cunnamulla, and have a soak in their soothing artesian waters. 2 new Pubstays in Tassie

Today we listed two new campsites at beautiful Tullah in Tasmania. Both are pubstays and within close proximity to each other. Tullah Lakeside Lodge This pub stay is right on the banks of Lake Rosebery. They offer camping for Caravans, RVs and camper trailers, with power, water and shared amenities. However, the base is hard gravel. This means you won’t pitch a tent here, but you can always stay in the lodge just for the serenity and views. Camping is $25 for a couple for the night and there is a free area for self-contained RVs. You’ll be stunned with

New listing! A pub stay in Jericho, Queensland

The Jordan Valley Hotel in Jericho, QLD is new to CAMPS 11 – you’ll also find it on the CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE App. It is QLD site 443 in Camps 11, we checked it out on our Outback Queensland trip last year. Robert and Gay Stubbs purchased the business in 2005 but didn’t take over management themselves until 2013. Gay makes meals for any workers staying in the rooms, even packing them a nice morning tea and lunch for their days at work. Thursday night is Pizza night and Friday nights the older locals get a nice home-cooked meal.
