You’ll find our first free Pubstay around 18 kms south of Gunnedah, NSW just off the Kamilaroi Highway. The historic Curlewis Commercial Hotel is located on the corner of Goran and Railway Streets. It offers a country welcome, relaxed atmosphere and a large grassed area for free overnight parking for campers including RVs, caravans and camper trailers to pull up for the night.
Campers tell us there’s hospitality plus at this Pub Stay. The friendly owners offer 24 hour toilet access, meals seven nights, showers available, lunch Friday through Sunday with weekend raffles and dinner specials.
Register at the bar on arrival, have a coldie and say hello to the friendly locals.
Around 400 km to the east of Curlewis, our next little gem is the Macleay River Hotel, or as the locals like to call it the “Fredo Pub”. Located in Macleay Street Frederickton NSW it is operated by Todd and Amee Wilson who have worked hard to make it a fun and friendly place for locals and visitors and have included a games section for kids as well as a bistro.
They offer 24 hour overnight stays for self contained RVs and caravans in a grassy area behind the hotel which is nestled beside the Macleay River. Hmm … free accommodation and river views? Sign me up! The park next door has a toilet which is handy and there’s a nearby boat ramp as well.
And finally heading north to Queensland our third is a lovely country Pubstay in the Scenic Rim – the Harrisville Commercial Hotel. Tucked in behind this historic old pub is a grassed area for self contained RVs and caravans.
Other accommodation is available along with toilets, showers, drinking water and picnic tables in the camping area. We hear from campers that the owners are welcoming and hospitable, with big country pub meals and friendly locals.
