Where to camp at Julia Creek, Queensland

This fantastic little town in North West Queensland, has two sites for camping… Julia Creek RV Stop If you’d like to stay at the RV Stop, you must have a fully self-contained RV, no tents. In this shire, that means “built in and/or propriety brand toilets secured in the van” with a black water holding tank or toilet cassette and no portable showers. You’ll need to collect a permit, valid for 96 hours, from the Julia Creek Visitor Information Centre, or from onsite camp hosts in peak season (April to September). UPDATE on Menindee Lakes Caravan Park, New South Wales

Image by Lesley Meade of nearby Lake Pamamaroo (from I Love Camping Australia Wide Facebook Group) Please update your books! Menindee Lakes Caravan Park, which is located on a Crown land reserve on the eastern shores of Lake Menindee, was brought under the management of the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment – Crown Lands in August 2020. The managers have had to make a lot of changes, there is no longer a dump point, cabins, camp kitchen, BBQs, picnic tables or shade! Water is now non potable, and the amenities for people with disabilities are not at the required standard.

CAMPS at Ayers Rock Resort

Camp at the Red Centre: Ayers Rock Resort, Northern Territory

CAMPS at Ayers Rock Resort As a caravan park, Ayers Rock Resort at Yulara, NT has all you need. It is pet friendly, has room for Big Rigs, amenities, laundry, camp kitchen, playground, pool and shade of the desert oaks. We loved the hill – where you see “The Rock“, and can toast the excitement of being so close to Uluru and Kata Tjuta. It is pricey, but this is the only option so close to Uluru for camping, and you do want to book in advance. You do have access to the resort restaurants and bars, shops, galleries, information

Camp at Patchewollock Hotel, Victoria

Established after the First World War, Patchewollock is a small town in North-West Victoria with a population of less than 200. Located 41 km SW of Ouyen or 49 km N of Hopetoun, “Patche” is home to an amazing silo art piece by Brisbane-based street artist Fintan Magee, sometimes referred to as the ‘Australia’s Banksy’. The giant mural depicts local sheep and grain farmer, Nick ‘Noodle’ Hulland, chosen for his ‘classic farmer looks’ and his strong connection to the farming community. Patchewollock Caravan Park (formerly Patche Sunset Retreat) has closed! However you can still camp there, it is now called

Where to camp in Thargomindah, Queensland

It was raining heavily as we drove towards Thargomindah. Roads had been busy up to Eulo, as the Big Red Bash was coming to Birdsville. We were looking forward to some indoor meals, a laundry for our muddy clothes and warming up… Thargomindah’s Explorers  Caravan Park gave us just that! We called ahead and snagged the last powered site – perfectly positioned outside the warm camp kitchen We parked up and explored town – stopping into the Thargomindah Pub for a hot lunch – yum! Make sure you check out the Visitor Centre, too. Explorers Caravan Park is huge, see more

Australia’s only fully off grid caravan park: Fowlers Bay, South Australia

by CAMPS Ambassadors, Overland Exposure Fowlers Bay is very small coastal town that has sand dunes, a jetty, some whales in the right season and that’s about it! We did stay at the ONLY FULLY OFF GRID CARAVAN PARK in Australia and the owners were lovely. If you plan to stay here, just remember they run everything off grid so just like you and us when free camping need to be mindful of water and electricity use. The playground was fab and the Ringneck Parrots were chatty too! There is a communal fire pit that is lit each evening. OH

April reopening for Omeo Caravan Park in Victoria

East Gippsland Shire Council is committed to having the Caravan Park at Omeo reopened by the 14th of April just before Easter. Some areas of the park will still have temporary closures and no cabins will be available. A flood in early January caused well-documented damage to the park and amenities, local roads and other public facilities such as Livingstone Park and the pump track.
