Lake Lyell is a picturesque recreational lake, great for camping, water skiing, 4WDing, swimming, canoeing. Fish for rainbow trout, brown trout, Australian bass, Macquarie perch, goldfish and redfin. All this and only about two and a half hours from Sydney, on the outskirts of Lithgow!
It has unpowered sites at budget prices. Pet friendly, it is suitable for tents right through to Big Rigs. There are toilets and showers, water, mobile coverage, picnic tables, firepits, BBQ and you can purchase gas onsite at the kiosk.
Although close to the road – there are great views! Facilities include kiosk, boat ramp, amenities block with hot showers, accessible toilet, covered BBQ area, picnic benches, playground and a designated swimming area.
The cement boat ramp can accommodate two vehicles at a time. There is no fishing from the pontoon, it is available for drop offs and pick ups only. Book ahead for peak periods, ski lodge, portaloos and the Aqua Blitz inflatable park.
Potable water is available for patrons behind the amenity blocks. This water must only be used to fill a drinking water container. There is no running water on sites and a two night minimum stay on weekends (and some non powered sites).
It was built in 1982 by Delta Electricity for the Mount Piper and Wallerawang Power Stations. The dams capacity is 34500ML with an approximate surface area of 238ha and a maximum water depth of 38m.
Pedestrians, motorbikes and buses to pay day fees at the office, or day visitors with a vehicle: pay at boom gate with gold coins.
