We love the Great River Road and the Upper Murray Pub Trail is a road trip magnet that drew us back!
Only 200 km, you’ll see nine pubs, lookouts and straddle the Mighty Murray River as you road trip. You can easily add in more stops from Albury, Tallangatta or into the Victorian High Country or explore NSW Snowy Valleys and an epic route up Yarrangobilly way.
Just a tip – time it right, a few of the pubs close Monday and Tuesday, which is why we keep coming back! (Like Jingellic, pictured!)

Koetong Pub
UPDATE: Oh no – Just heard this morning that this pub closed it’s doors yesterday! Any place that started out as an illegal wine shanty, and was still going strong 150 years later is on my list! Note that it is pronounced Cooee- tong, you could camp at the 1870s pub or at Koetong Creek with a natural spa. We were an hour off opening time as we drove through – wish we had stayed now! All the best to publican Shelley.
Hotel Cudgewa
This 1921 pub is nearby several campgrounds in the Burrowa-Pine Mountain National Park. It’s up for sale if you’ve ever fancied yourself a publican!
Corryong
Home of the Man From Snowy River Festival, Courthouse Hotel and Corryong Hotel Motel! Corryong has donation camping at Corryong RV Parking in the centre of town for self contained vehicles, caravan park in town or at Colac Colac (quirkily pronounced Clack Clack).

Khancoban Alpine Inn
Another pub we’ll return to. The drive from Geehi Flats where we camped is fantastic, make sure you stop at Scammells Lookout!
Camp out the back of this waterside 1879 hotel or if you have a dog, on the reserve opposite. We met publicans, Chris and chef Chris and chatted with the locals. Try your luck on the pub game!
Over the Murray again to Victoria…
With a caravan park next door-ish, you are almost spitting distance to the Murray, poplars and sculptures. The first pub on the Murray in 1870, we heard about the “Tinpot’s” famed curry nights and enjoyed the historic store and park.
Built in 1926, you can also camp at the Walwa Hotel if you are self contained. We chose to free camp at Pebble Beach, close to the Jingellic Bridge but still in Victoria. Had three swims, and a yummy dinner by the Murray!

From Victoria to NSW…
Love a pub where you can camp out the back, and even better if it is on a river. But when it is the Murray River, that is something else! We had an excellent feed at the 1925 pub gazing at the river, a swim in the Murray and all on our van’s doorstep. Highly rate this spot!
