As soon as we walked in the pub after a big day on the road, we certainly felt welcomed. For a Sunday evening, Hotel Koorawatha was pumping! And to my surprise, people were playing cards! My kind of hotel.
Every Sunday, they host a Euchre comp. Well, we ordered some dinner, chatted to locals, played our own card game and enjoyed the atmosphere.
Heatley rated the snags (they were skinny beef sausages, cooked to the max – just how he does it himself), and I had the yummy beef schnitty special. Finishing our drinks in the beer garden, we checked out the pub’s free camping at the back of the hall. Always appreciated.
Although there was someone parked up already, there was still space to turn around. Not suitable for small vehicles only, definitely not Big Rigs. The area is fully fenced with a gate. You can access it from the lane between the pub and the hall, after you speak to the publican.
Tonight we opted for facilities and sunset at the spacious showground. At $15 for a site, or $20 for facilities and power as well. We didn’t need power, but the shower was needed.
Heatley showered with a green frog, facilities were spotless and I made sure to put our fee in the honesty box. You can also book and pay at the hotel.
It is just beautiful out there. With so much space, it was private and peaceful. Except one thing… In the morning, I was minus one thong. Of course, I should have brought the shoes inside!
I’ve had my shoe moved before, but never stolen all together! And why mine, and not Heatley’s? I wonder what critter it was? Has this happened to you?
Both of these grassy sites are pet friendly. On this occasion, there was a bit of road noise from the Olympic Highway, but it didn’t bother us a bit.
Next time however, I’ll make sure we arrive at 2pm Sunday, ready for the cards! Thank you, Koorawatha!
