Put Rose Isle Station on your list for the Darling River Run in New South Wales

Rose Isle Station

Thanks Samantha and Gary for the BEST night at Rose Isle Station!

Owners Samantha and Gary could not have been more welcoming! We arrived in time for morning tea – which was so much more than tea and scones. Two varieties of scones, impossible pie, pumpkin fritters, lemon meringue pies, and another cake! This is put on every second day! Lucky we planned a strenuous walk up Mt Gundabooka!

We sat out in the winter sun with other travellers for a chat whilst we ate, comparing notes on this epic road trip.

The camp kitchen has a fireplace/chimney and a fire pit with river views as well as an upcycled pizza oven creation.

We took the buggy to check out the river camps, and the road conditions.

Our set up out there was the best riverfront spot on the Darling yet – it is a huge camping area and they have 15 private sites along the river.

Our camp at Rose Isle Station, NSW

Having a paddle in the kayak was such a thrill for me. I really felt like I was on the Darling River Run! It certainly filled my soul.

Heatley made a Campfire and delicious stew – yum.

We set up another fire at the donkey for a hot bath!! It’s a one of a kind bathhouse – shower and flushing loo!

Travellers Linda and Craig stopped after their bath for drinks and a chat by the fire.

Unbelievably – our unpowered river site is also budget priced! Powered sites are close to the camp kitchen and facilities. Additionally, they are grassy too which is much appreciated with the red dirt.  The campground is pet friendly, too.

Accommodation is beautifully done, with lots of options.  Great for families and groups. There is even a laundry!

Sam’s kids are sixth generation in the area so therefore loads of history to share, ask about the avenue of trees, the history is pretty cool!

They are passionate about the region and giving us the best tips on the national park walks.  Samatha shared her local knowledge on stations as well as any free camps nearby.

This station is a convenient location to the walks in the national park, and I loved seeing the emus walk around.

Much of the road from Bourke here is tarred but you get that beautiful red dirt as soon as you drive through the gate.
