We found a little piece of Aussie history in this newly listed free camp, a Pub Stay in Tarcowie Hotel.
Located in mid north South Australia, the hotel was established in 1878 but closed in 2008. So after some 16 years of silence, she is now fully restored and reopened!
Amazingly, the new owner Mark, is the grandson of the publican (his grandmother) who ran the premises from 1933 to 1938. Mark says that renovating this 146 year old hotel has been a labour of love.
The Tarcowie is offering overnight stays to self contained vehicles. You can camp beside the Hotel and there’s a toilet available. A feature of the hotel is the ceiling which is covered in coasters!
Camping is offered for free in exchange for your patronage. So join him at the bar for a meal, a drink and a toast to the past.
