Literally metres! When our lap stopped at Albany, Western Australia we spent a day at the old whaling station on Frenchman Bay. Had we driven a little further east, we would have seen this beautiful beach.
Misery Beach may well have been named for the butchered whales – as their remains of offal and teeth stained its shores. This gruesome history contributed to this little cove winning the Best Beach 2022. That, and the crystal clear turquoise waves and white, white sand. Our photo taken from an old whaler, shows the top of the granite outcrop that also makes it unique. And that’s as close as we got!
Read on for where we did explore in Torndirrup National Park and why we recommend a visit to Australia’s last operating whaling station.
Here’s the list of where to camp nearby the Best Aussie Beaches for 2022 – so you can experience them! Plus we have featured a few of the ones our team have been to: a Gold Coast beauty – The Spit and K’gari Fraser Island Lake Wabby in Queensland, a jewel on the NSW south coast, Depot Beach and a Tassie island gem, the Neck at Bruny Island.
As always, you’ll find the camps and parks in your CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE App and guides. As for me, I’m planning a trip back to beautiful Albany. Once that WA border reopens, that is!
