You won’t get bored at Pambula – you can swim at three sparkling New South Wales South Coast beaches. At low tide you can walk all three of these beach gems. No wonder it is called the Sapphire Coast!
Pambula Beach
Time for a caravan park stay and we opted for Discovery Holiday Parks Pambula Beach. It’s about ten metres to the beach access track and dunes to spectacular Pambula Beach.
Turn left and you can go 5 km to Merimbula from here! Or turn right and the southern end is patrolled in summer you can take the headland walking rack and see rock pools at low tide.
Plus you camp with kangaroos here! Pambula is famous for kangaroos – if you are lucky you’ll see them on the beach. Plus cheeky seagulls are walking through our sites.
Lions Park Beach
Popular as an off leash dog friendly area, Lions Park Beach also has a fab lookout.
Pambula River Beach
We had the hot tip to visit the river beach and wow! We also swam at sensational Merimbula Beach. Often more sheltered at the river, we loved our swim and colours of the water.
You can hike along the walking track through Beowa National Park, formerly known as Ben Boyd National Park. It is a Grade 4 walk, but we didn’t need it at low tide.
As we walked, we saw Beowa National Park’s Devonian rock close up! It existed before dinosaurs, so it is no surprise internationally-significant fish fossils have been found along this coast.
Our caravan “neighbours” said they live at the river beach over Christmas. Kayaking school groups, families and fishermen were out enjoying the water.
The Pambula River is simply sensational.
And more
Also check out lakes, Aboriginal middens, wetlands and ancient rainforests. Oysters, brewery, eateries, surfing, fishing, kayaking, golf….
Everyone we’ve spoken to is from Melbourne! Families return here year on year, and now the next generation have followed them.
PET FRIENDLY TIP
There is a dog kennel in town with the caravan storage facility. You can also stop at the pet friendly Reflections Holiday Parks Pambula is located right in town, only 3 km from Pambula Beach or less than 4km to Merimbula Beach. There are more caravan parks in Merimbula.
Pambula is 3 hours from Canberra, 6 hours from Sydney, and less than 7 hours from Melbourne.
