There are lots of picnic areas and lookouts. It is also a spot for rock fishing and whale watching in the season. Walks include:

The Moonee Beach trail is 4 km return – Grade 2 walk. It is south of Catherine Hill Bay – with beautiful views over Timber, Ghosties and Moonee Beaches.

Palms Circuit Track – 1.5 km return walk, shaded by cabbage tree plams. It is accessed by the Palms Picnic Area.

Melaleuca Track (Birdie Creek and Coast tracks) are 7.2 km one way, via swamp/sedgeland paperbark forest, scribbly gums and coastal heath. Enjoy views of Norah Head and Bird Island before you finish at Frazer Beach.

Bring hat, water, sunscreen, binoculars, snorkelling gear and togs! If you walk in early spring or late winter, expect to see wildflowers on the heath.

Freemans Campground is located in centre of the Conservation Area, 17 km south of Swansea or 23 km north of Wyong, via Elizabeth Bay Dr. There are limited caravan sites, and sites are marked, unpowered and suitable for up to 6 people. You need to pre-book online, for a minimum two nights.

There are accessible facilities (cold showers), drinking water, covered BBQ areas, picnic tables and a boat ramp. The area is popular for swimming, fishing, surfing and bushwalking.

Surrounded by bush, the grassy campground is only a short walk to Birdie Beach. The northern end of the beach is a designated nude bathing area.

Note: The best mobile reception is next to the amenities block.

Elizabeth Bay Picnic Area is a popular spot to swim in the lake, on the outskirts of Lake Munmorah township, on the Budgewoi Peninsula. There are picnic tables and a boat ramp.
