Penola is described as the “perfect place to pause”, and it is a well-earned title. There are more than 20 wineries and cellar doors in Coonawarra – you can even cycle to some from the campgrounds.

For self-contained vehicles, it is just outside Penola, with large flat sites, BBQs, picnic tables, 48-hour limit, and is suitable for big rigs and dogs. Flushing toilets are in the adjacent picnic area.

This magnificent site has a newly paved arboretum to explore the trees and 1.2km pathways, the Adam Lindsay Gordon walk around the dry lake, or take a walk in the nearby cemetery.

Note it is dry weather only – it can get boggy!

There are seven golf courses in the area, a town heritage walk and the pub is worth a stop!

Congratulations to the local community for providing this gem. Please give a donation for the upkeep at the Information Centre (another good spot to visit).

Travel 18 km north of Nangwarry or 1 km south of Penola, 800 m off the highway.

This is SA site 80 in CAMPS 10 or if you have our CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE App as well – simply go to the map or list and search with the site name!
