A free camping beach in QLD? Try Balgal Beach

This heavenly spot is a popular one, you may need to get here early. With a 48-hour limit, once per week – it is winning with facilities- disability toilet, cold shower, BBQ, picnic table, dump point and water. Right on the beach- there’s also a beautiful creek with good fishing and walking. Pets are allowed and there is mobile phone coverage and ample shade. Across the road is a shop with groceries, fish and chips and alcohol
– everything you need!

Balgal Beach is part of the Northern Beaches of Townsville with a sand beach and stinger net from November to May. Turn east off the Bruce Highway, 1 km south of Rollingstone, travel 5 km more. It’s at the
north end of town near the boat ramp.

For those with a boat, it is a great base to explore the Palm Island group in the Great Barrier Reef. Watch for the bugs!
