Who has crossed the QLD/NT border near Camooweal? This week, Kate and Max clocked 3,000km in 3 days – from Rainbow Beach to Katherine.
Through Rockhampton to Barcaldine for the night. They said nothing was open for dinner
Stopping off at Ilfracombe past the Wellshot Hotel and Machinery Mile, Longreach, Winton, McKinlay and Cloncurry.
Views of the mines greet you are you drive through Mount Isa – and they rested at Camooweal for the night. The last Queensland town you’ll see before the border!
They had the best BLT and egg/bacon burger breakfast and wet season Barkly Highway advice at Camooweal Roadhouse.
There was some water over Barkly Highway – and they topped up fuel at Barkly Homestead, another camp spot.
They also rated a Daly Waters lunch.
Kate had visited when we did our lap, and couldn’t get over the difference!
Green grass and only a few campers. When we were there it was dusty, noisy and full up! And a lot of fun.
They stopped at Mataranka for a swim. Beautiful.
They continued on after a few days and ended up sipping rooftop cocktails over Darwin Waterfront! More NT highlights and camps…
