We rated Blackall, Tambo and Augathella in Outback Queensland as one of the most friendly RV destinations from our winter road trip.
We had to whiz through but my highlights were:
- picking up a Tambo Teddy “fleece” (so soft)
- seeing the word Barcoo everywhere! (I’ve always wanted to visit the Outer Barcoo)
- picnic by the Barcoo River at Stubby Bend FREE CAMP at Tambo
- a beverage at Royal Carrangarra Hotel, where the chicken races are held in Tambo
- seeing the Smiley Mural, and learning about Meat Ants at Augathella
- all 3 towns have the best river camping, and are very RV friendly with classic pubs (check the CAMPS App and you’ll see what I mean!)
Don’t miss out on these
I am SO coming back for a spa at Blackall! Those jets looked amazing. Check hours for your trip planning. And I’ll visit the famous Woolscour, and Tambo’s Chicken Races.
Plus buy a kabana from the Augathella Butcher. I had never tried a beer stick before, they had run out of kabana – it was excellent. No wonder, there were so many travellers in town! Instead of every couple of months, during the busy winter season he batches them up twice a week!
Put this road trip on your list. This was Day 68 of our winter road trip to Western Australia and back.
