This overnighter is opposite McDonalds in Cowra, a pleasant walk to the Australia’s World Peace Bell, 50 metres to the river, and just over the bridge you’ll find the shops. There are toilets and a dump point, plus an Information Centre and even a rose garden! This bitumen parking area is surrounded by parkland and sports fields, and is adjacent to Edgell Park, with BBQs and a good dog area.
Cowra is best known for the largest Prisoner of War breakout in modern military history. It has a cemetery, POW theatre and hologram, military and migrant camps.
There’s even more to take in, if you have time: the Cowra Japanese Garden, vineyards, delicious local produce, a Heritage, Garrison or Lachlan River walk, balloon joy flights, Darby’s Falls Observatory, Koorawatha Falls, Wyangala Dam and four national parks.
If you like peace and quiet, it may be useful to know that road noise can be an issue here, but there is no doubt, it is an excellent stopover and location for self contained RVs, and a 24-hour limit applies.
Find this stop on the Lachlan Valley Way, 100 metres south of the Mid-Western Highway intersection.
