Ebor Falls closed for $3 million redevelopment

TWO years after viewing platforms, pathways and pedestrian barriers at Ebor Falls were destroyed in devastating bushfires, the facilities which make Guy Fawkes River National Park one of the region’s most popular visitor destinations will return from the ashes, with Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall yesterday announcing $3 million for a major redevelopment. Mr Marshall said considerable planning had gone into developing an accessible tourist experience which will act as the ‘eastern welcome mat’ to the region. “We’ve used the devastation caused by the Black Summer bushfires in 2019/20 to hit the reset button and develop a breathtaking suite of

Tooloom Falls at Bandahngan Aboriginal Area is still closed

We tried to pop into Tooloom Falls on our recent visit. This information below was dated September, 2020. Hopefully the falls and camping will be open again soon.  National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will temporarily close Bandahngan Aboriginal Area at Urbenville while essential rehabilitation and improvement work takes place.  The popular site includes unregulated camping areas at Tooloom Falls and Bandahngan Loop Road and is expected to reopen in June 2021. NPWS Area Manager, Damien Hofmeyer, said NPWS had been advised by the Githabul Aboriginal community that the sacred Aboriginal area required a period of rest. “Bandahngan Aboriginal Area

Stop into the Warrumbungle Visitor Centre, New South Wales

The Warrumbungle National Park Visitor Information Centre is a beauty! We love info centres for all they deliver on suggestions for what to see and do – but this is why we think this one is a must see if you are visiting the park: Displays are interactive – you really do learn more by doing. It was no chore for our kids to bring me back facts here. Displays encourage touch – the fun facts and moving parts kept our crew occupied. The views – you can look right out to volcanic remnants that the park is known for

Aussie MUST DO: Taronga Western Plains Zoo at Dubbo, New South Wales

Did you know you can camp at Taronga Western Plains Zoo? Heatley’s mum and sister had the best time there last week! They said:    “5 hrs at the zoo. Fabulous day. Nyla the king cheetah, the giraffes and the Siamang apes were so engaging and our favourites…”   You’ll find it in Dubbo, New South Wales. It’s an interesting town to explore – but even better knowing you can see the lions and giraffes. If you are driving near Dubbo with the kids, add African animals to your spotto list!    I wonder if you’ve been here, too? Here are photos from

Coopernook Hotel, NSW
Budget Campsite

A funny thing happened on the way to the Coopernook Hotel…

We’d ordered our lunch, found a table out the front of the pub with fabulous water views, and wandered over to the jetty for a look-see. On the opposite bank, a tinny was backed up to the edge, and plonked in the water. I thought the two fellows were off for a fish. But no, however, there was a plan. They rowed directly across the river, and they didn’t worry about the boat ramp. I spotted them moments later, happy at the bar. It would have it’s benefits, living ‘next door’ to a pub. Coopernook Hotel is not just any

Barrington Tops State Forest Lookout
Camping

Have you camped at Barrington Tops, near Gloucester, NSW?

West of Gloucester, and east of Scone, is a very special (and chilly) New South Wales national park and state forest. As well as lookouts, there are seven camping options around Barrington Tops – including Polblue Campground which you can find in the first edition of CAMPS!  Check out these world class views from recently upgraded Cobark Lookout at Barrington Tops State Forest. Cobark Lookout is the first stop for visitors on their way across the Barrington Tops from Gloucester, so was a great candidate for an upgrade, said Forestry Corporation of NSW Tourism and Partnerships Manager Louise Faulkner. Ms

NEW SITE: Alpaca Magic, Sutton, New South Wales

I’ll be straight, this site isn’t budget priced. There are no facilities, adults only – it is self contained RVs only. But you get to camp near alpacas and llamas, and it is super close to Canberra! I visited Alpaca Magic recently and met the owner Glynda (she tells me like the Good Witch of the North, spelling that is.) Knowing my musicals, I guessed she was talking about Wizard of Oz. Her llamas and alpacas certainly thought she was special. Owner Glynda feeds her Alpaca’s Glynda gave us a little tour, there are a variety of paddocks to camp
