Camping favourite: Lara Wetlands, near Barcaldine, QLD

What is not to love about Lara Wetlands? Tell us your opinion on this outback camp:

  • Damper, billy tea and live music put on for free (the damper was superb!)
  • Free canoe and bike use
  • Billabong views
  • Pet friendly
  • Great for families – there’s a kid “warm spa” paddling area and play fort
  • But best of all – the HOT HOT mineral spa. Loved it sooo much I had another before bed – yep, all to myself!

Since it is super hot, there is a clock right there to remind you to hop out every 15 minutes. The cold shower beside the spa is like an ice bath in comparison.

This was Day 67 of our winter outback trip! Thanks to Ray and Linda for sharing your campfire with us – we loved hearing about the Outback Golf Masters.

No wonder people recommend Lara Wetlands! We were lucky to time it for the damper night, and snag a site so close to the spa.

There are also station tours. This is a cracking site, and not so far off the highway (but a slow drive in) if you are travelling south of Barcaldine, or north of Blackall. Put it on your list!

If you love camping at places like this, we have some more hot mineral springs for you!
