Number 6 on the official 2022 Best Aussie Beach list is The Neck, Bruny Island in Tasmania.
On an isle off an isle, this location’s campground is only 20 metres from the beach! Situated outside the National Park boundaries there are flat sites, car parking, picnic facilities and pit toilets. BYO drinking water and firewood.
There are no bookings taken, it is first come, first served. Pay at the self registration deposit box and display your permit.
Fishing, swimming and fires are allowed.
The Neck is an isthmus of land connecting north and south Bruny Island and important for wildlife. View short-tailed shearwaters and little penguins (also known as fairy penguins) from boardwalks and platforms. The penguin rookery is two km north of the campground.
The best viewing period is during the warmer months—September to February.
Check the interpretation board and during peak viewing times there is a Parks and Wildlife interpretation guide present at dusk.

Access is from the ferry at Kettering, in southern Tasmania.
