Camp at Home Valley Station, Western Australia

We only stayed one night at Home Valley Station on the Gibb River Road, Western Australia – but it is a place I would love to return here to The Kimberley. Why?

1. It was the location we decided to continue our lap of Australia. Initially we had seven weeks – we had worked and played our way through outback NSW, touching the Murray in Victoria and South Australia – travelling up the centre and looping through the Top End. Relaxed, at this bar, we decided to keep going! And we did.

2. We received an upgrade! They were revamping the safari tents SOOO the six of us were given three separate “deluxe rooms”! Luxury plus after six weeks in our 6 berth motorhome tin can!

3. It was at Home Valley Station, amongst the majestic boab trees and Cockburn Ranges, I really grasped the pull of The Kimberley.

I loved Kununurra, too – but no wonder The Gibb River Road is seen as one of the most epic 4WD trips in Australia.

In this remote location – you can expect all the little luxuries you’ll find at a caravan park – a store, pool, playground and the airy Dusty’s Bar and Grill. It was here our kids tasted crocodile balls and a few other delicacies!

You can camp near the homestead or at their Pentecost River camp area. They also have riverside suites, on Bindoola Creek.

We took a hot walk to Bindoola Gorge. Bring lots of water. This trail is one of many on this huge station stay.

Since our visit, management has transferred to Balanggarra Traditional Custodians – and they will be taking bookings from May 1, 2023.

They offer plenty of tours – like stargazing, a sunset tour, and a tour of Home Valley.

Do book ahead!
