All you need to know about Barn Hill Station

Our first time at Barn Hill Station and we are impressed with this station stay. The unpowered cliff sites or ocean view sites do just that – Indian Ocean views that go on forever! With red cliffs against the blue ocean that the Kimberley is famous for. Here’s a few tips if you are planning a trip here:

1.  Do. I mean do add this place to your trip plan and do book a site.

We didn’t book ahead, and we nabbed a $17.50 per person overflow site on “Northshore Rd” that still has ocean views – between vans, that is! I would book ahead and pay the $20 a head for the million dollar views. And stay for longer than one night!

2.  Position, Position, Position

Loved the Ocean View sites the most. The powered sites (and ocean loop overflow areas) are closest to the beach stairs. However there is a “goat track” to reach the beach from the northern side of camp. You’ll see the tracks from the shacks.

3.  Pizza

Make sure you order your pizza before the cut off time. Lunched on a yummy salad and toastie and ordered the ‘Barn Hill’ (something with olives). Pizza, latest slot was 5.30pm – but get in earlier for the more popular times.

4.  BYO

The cafe is BYO alcoholic beverages, kids can play in the super playground or around the boat and there is a lovely grassy area for gatherings. Alcohol is not for sale here.

5.  Check out the calendar

We are told people come for weeks here, and no wonder. There is a week day exercise session by donation, a craft group, bowls and tonight there is live music! As we are here on the weekend, we’ll catch the Sunday Craft Market. Which is great, because we missed the one in Eighty Mile Beach this afternoon.

6.  You are “shore” to find plenty to do

There is a bit going on along the shore – rock pools, massive tides, fishing, strolling, cliff climbing and even better views further down.

This favourite family-run campsite is within Thangoo Station, a beef cattle operation. Find it and other awesome station stays, free camps, caravan parks and more in Camps App and travel guides.
