Wave Rock is just one of those “Bucket List” must dos we have listed in our new and FREE Official Camps Australia Wide Checklist for ‘Must-Do’ Experiences in Australia.

A lot of love went into the creation of this list – with some of our favourite places, our team’s ultimate picks and CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE reader’s recommended ‘must see and dos’.

I still want to tick Wave Rock off my list – it is one of places I remember wanting to visit as a kid. At 15 metres high and 110 metres long, erosion and weather has caused the shape and colour that distinguish this prehistoric Aussie icon. I’d like to go in Spring and experience the orchids and wildflowers, too. As well as tracks around Wave Rock, there is a 1 km walking loop to Hippo’s Yawn, or access via road. A day use fee is applied.

Our Wanderlust Souls said that Wave Rock is a little away from the coast and in the middle of nowhere but with a little planning this place is a must. The rock itself begins exactly how a wave would begin, then rising up and spanning for 150 metres. The kids had a lot of fun trying to run up the “wave” not getting too high for the steepness and rise of this phenomenal rock formation. Whilst in Hyden, plan to visit Lake Magic, a man made salt lake even those who cannot float will enjoy, especially in the warmer months.

Hyden is just 2.5hrs away from the beautiful Stirling Ranges with the remarkable Bluff Knoll and its the unparalleled views. Thanks to @ourwanderlustsouls – check out their inspiring images on Instagram or read up on their website.

In this area there are also caves, guided tours, museums, wildlife, the Humps and quirky streetscape art in Hyden. Stay at Wave Rock Caravan Park – WA site 159 in Caravan Park 5 book, or find it on the Camps Australia Wide App.

The Official Camps Australia Wide Checklist for ‘Must-Do’ Experiences in Australia is for all ages, crosses all states and territories of our beautiful country. Now that all travel is suspended whilst our world tackles COVID-19 we can still plan ahead for when we are allowed back on the road.
