Did you know you can camp at Taronga Western Plains Zoo? Heatley’s mum and sister had the best time there last week! They said:
“5 hrs at the zoo. Fabulous day. Nyla the king cheetah, the giraffes and the Siamang apes were so engaging and our favourites…”
You’ll find it in Dubbo, New South Wales. It’s an interesting town to explore – but even better knowing you can see the lions and giraffes. If you are driving near Dubbo with the kids, add African animals to your spotto list!

I think the giraffes were my favourite! Those long necks – such graceful animals. We were there for feeding time – you book encounters as an additional experience.
And the little giraffes were so cute. I could have taken this calf home – almost!
Keeper talks are on offer including Asian elephants and a calf. Talks are free with your zoo entry.
Imagine waking up to all this and the roar of the lions! As well as a lodge, cabins and glamping – they now have tents at the zoo! We chose to walk around the zoo – but you can take a safari, pedal your way on land and in the water! The carts did look fun – they hold up to 6 people!
Three lion cubs have joined the pride. The zoo is well set up for rest stops and photo opportunities for families, including their new Waterhole precinct with cafe and water play.
