Crossing the Nullarbor – our adventure from Western Australia into South Australia

On the end of our Big Lap, on limited time, we traversed The Nullarbor in two days. Kids were due back at school, we had businesses to run but were so keen to experience this famed road trip. We left Esperance and the beauty of Cape Le Grand National Park, through Grass Patch and the heart of Mallee Country. The Nullarbor Plain begins in Norseman, Western Australia – we saw camels here, which was pretty cool. “The Nullarbor” is an 1100km route. Here’s where we stopped: Balladonia was a lunch stop with a pretty multicoloured picket fenced playground. Oh, we were so

Must See and Do on a Lightning Ridge road trip in New South Wales

Lightning Ridge, New South Wales – image Keith Halford Most people have heard of Lightning Ridge and know it is THE destination for NSW opals. But did you know there are other attractions around here for a roadtrip? Also that Opals are Australia’s national gemstone?  The Lightning Ridge area has plenty of free camps and bore baths, too. Even a free camp with a bore bath! Keith Halford from our Facebook Group, I Love Camping Australia Wide said he “Loved our stay in Lightning Ridge! So many things to see and do here.”  Here’s his list: The Chambers Of The Black

Alert: Roadworks on the Pacific Highway

Take the Pacific Highway, they said – it is smooth sailing, they said!  Last year the Pacific Highway was hard work with all the traffic and roadworks. We were assured that all this was much smoother now, so choose this route as our way home from Victoria last month.  There has been some amazing progress – although we hit some road works just north of Sydney, we could see the progress all along – and noticed the bypasses at Buladelah and Macksville.  However there was still plenty of stopping in northern NSW. The thing that had our jaws dropping as

Road upgrades in New South Wales give more options for travellers

Coulsons Creek Road Merriwa to Willow Tree reconstruction Image Upper Hunter Shire Council NSW Camps Australia Wide thanks Barry Blair and Upper Hunter shire Council for this alert. It’s time to give you a brief mention of the road between Willow Tree and Merriwa in NSW which is expected to be fully sealed sometime during this coming September. This particular road is some 82km in length, and once completed will provide grey nomads with some great alternatives in terms of (currently) ‘road less travelled’. Since April 2018, the road between Blayney and Crookwell via Tuena is now fully sealed. Broadly/generally

Take the back roads

We are just back from a 3,500 km road trip. We’ve driven from Queensland to the snow many times over the years, but each trip we love to travel via towns we haven’t seen before and roads not yet travelled. It’s good to mix it up a bit.
