South Coast NSW Must See: Wallagoot Gap

I can’t believe we travelled all the way to Bournda National Park and missed this beauty! 

Wallagoot Gap in Bournda National Park is on the New South Wales’ Sapphire Coast.

Bermagui to Wonboyn is known as the Sapphire Coast – and is home to many gems of locations! This well hidden beach is only minutes from Tathra and Merimbula. 

Wallagoot Gap is a 200 metre walk from Turingal Head Picnic Area (find the day use area in the CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE App). You’ll reach a timber platform and stairs down to the beach. Make sure you bring your camera, as you can see the views are sensational.

Also known as Wine Glass Bay or “The Gap”, there are cliffs on either side and just a narrow neck opening to a small beach. Do check tides and remember the beach is unpatrolled. 

Other options are to hike the Kangarutha walking track and visit Wallagoot Lake Picnic Area and boat ramp.  So very close! 

We camped at Hobart Beach in the National Park, on the south side of Wallagoot Lake. 

You can also access the ocean. Plus there are caravan parks in Tathra. (See our guides and App!)

With ocean views either side, we also really recommend the hotel at Tathra. They have their own brewery to try.
