About 17 years ago, I went into Gympie Internet and Gaming to photocopy and work, plus play a few computer games! We used to bring our computers in for updates. Wayne was always up for a chat.
Wayne has been an essential part of our everyday, initially as a contractor, then employee and friend. Our relationship evolved with Wayne over the years, we would have had over a dozen businesses over the years that needed his expertise. He was so adaptable, so willing to help, so solution focused and patient to explain. Trustworthy and honourable to the core, he always did the right thing.
He would spot problems, and went over and above – always. Wayne hated scammers with a passion! He protected our businesses (and us) like a super hero. Each time you gave Wayne a job, you knew it would be done right. He even created code for us, and was our go to for advice about anything IT. If he couldn’t fix it, he’d tell you and offer a solution. Wayne always had a solution.
We called Wayne our Tech Guru, our Mr Fix It. I am so glad we told him regularly how lucky we were to have him working with us. We would talk to Wayne just about every day, and there would be at least one email from him daily, too. Our team would contact him regularly as well. And the phone call would generally finish with us saying “Wayne, I gotta go”. Because he was passionate about what he did, and wanted to get it just right – plus he loved a chat. Especially when we were talking about our kids…
Family focused, he was so proud of his boys, he loved updating us on their news and achievements. We knew NOT to call Wayne after 4pm if we could help it because that was reserved for cards with Simone. Possibly a glass of vino as well…
We both miss working with him already. He took such an interest in our travels and write ups – managing it all for us. Michelle loved sending him articles on war history trails, or planes because she knew he’d find it extra interesting. And he’d keep a look out on news or camping updates for us. Even though, his idea of camping involved a five star hotel!
Knowing how much Wayne has left a hole in our hearts and lives, and how much we value the time we have known him – our thoughts and love extend to Simone, Lucas and Jacob on the loss of this one-of-a-kind, generous, kind and talented man.
