Where: 180 km from Kalgoorlie
Lake Ballard is one of the most unusual and remote cultural attractions of Western Australia. Across the 49 km² Lake stand a series of eerie but fascinating figures created by renowned British artist Antony Gormley. These sculptures continue to stir national and international interest.
The Lake is home to 51 steel sculptures of human forms that are spread over ten kilometres. You cannot take any vehicles onto the Lake so be prepared to go for a walk across the dried up lake. The beauty of this is that visitors footprints create a link between each figure, tying the landscape into the artwork.
Lake Ballard you can access it is located 180 km from Kalgoorlie. The best route is to drive via Menzies by sealed road, with only the last 55 km being an unsealed road. If you don’t want to drive you can take a full day bus tour to the Lake with Goldrush Tours.
