Australia’s Funniest Camp Names – From Bottoms to Bums

Poowong Rec Reserve, VIC

If you remember some of these “cheeky” campsite names for campfire chats, you’ll get a few laughs! It’s all because June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, and what better way to promote early detection than to talk bottoms – and explore a few too!

Grab a cuppa, and check out our round-up of Australia’s most amusingly named campsites, most are pet friendly. Have you been to these sites or found any cheeky names on your travels? Find every one of them in the CAMPS Australia Wide App and guides.

Bumbuggan Weir

First up, we have a free camp at Mulguthrie between Condobolin and Forbes, NSW, where Bumbuggan Creek meanders down to the Lachlan River.

Wooleybutt Acres

This NT Berry Springs gem has a sparkling pool and budget-friendly rates. Self-contained vehicles only, and sorry pets, this one’s people-only.

Bummaroo Ford

A free camp in Abercrombie River National Park, NSW, on the river! And yes, we’ve actually visited here ourselves. Total beauty. No pets.

Our travel notes:  What a spot! Riverside, at the bottom of a VERY steep drive down. Spoke to fellas and their kids, who were swimming. FREE!

Great name and an excellent site. Beautiful swimming holes in Abercrombie River. Extremely steep descent from the north. Would definitely recommend this camp. Good access to the river as well.

Bumberry Dam

A free camp just out of Parkes, NSW, with swimming, fishing, and pet-friendly vibes. No facilities, so come prepared.

Crapella Road

Boscabel Rest Area, WA is a pull-over on the Albany Highway, north of Kojonup. But really, how did that road get its name?

Bumbaldry

A NSW rest area/free camp near Cowra and the perfect overnight pause on your country travels.

Turkey Bottom Lake

Donation-based in the Wimmera near Yapeet, VIC. Bring the pets, take a swim, and toast marshmallows by the campfire.

One More … Poowong

The top photo is Poowong Rec Reserve, VIC.
Budget-priced and pet-friendly Rec Reserve in South Gippsland, VIC. Self-contained vehicles welcome – what a wonderful little stop.

So have a giggle around the campfire, and most importantly – get checked! Early detection saves lives. If you missed last years’ list, here’s more bottom named camps – find all in the CAMPS Australia Wide App Camps 13 or CAMPSPendium 2.

Happy camping, and we’ll see you at the next cheeky-named spot.
